Delhi's status

[edit]

Delhi should be included here. It is incorrect to say that Delhi is no longer a Union Territory. Delhi still has an entry in the First Schedule, Part II of the Constitution of India (Union Territories).

"1. Delhi...The territory which immediately before the commencement of this Constitution was comprised in the Chief Commissioner’s Province of Delhi."

What the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991 did was to change the name of the discount, (besides introducing an elected assembly, etc.), it did not change the classification of the territory. Under the Constitution (Article I, Section 3):

"(3) The territory of India shall comprise— (a) the territories of the States; (b) the Union territories specified in the First Schedule; and (c) such other territories as may be acquired."

Delhi is neither (a) or (c). --Manojb 10:16, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To add to the above, Article 239AA of the Constitution says:

"239AA. Special provisions with respect to Delhi.—(1) As from the date of commencement of the Constitution (Sixty-ninth Amendment) Act, 1991, the Union territory of Delhi shall be called the National Capital Territory of Delhi (hereafter in this Part referred to as the National Capital Territory) and the administrator thereof appointed under article 239 shall be designated as the Lieutenant Governor." (emphasis added)

This substantiates my claim that only the name was changed, not the classification. --Manojb 10:26, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Union Territory (India)Union Territory — The term "Union Territory" is only used in India, hence disambigution is unnecessary. The recent move should be reverted. - BilCat (talk) 05:29, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. In the section "Union territories without their own legislatures:" - "Ladakh" is mentioned twice. This duplicate entry should be resolved.
  2. In the section "Union territories without their own legislatures:" - "Jammu" and "Kashmir" are mentioned separately.
    1. "Jammu" and "Kashmir", as separate entries should be replaced with one entry "Jammu & Kashmir". [1]
    2. The merged entry of "Jammu & Kashmir" should be moved from section "Union territories without their own legislatures" to section "Union territories with their own legislatures". [2] 176.72.250.128 (talk) 06:58, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Literal meaning

[edit]

I'd like to invite @Hemant Dabral: for this particular edit what I reckon as an extension of serial disruption. Kendrashasit Pradesh happens to be prevalent name for India's Union territories. Aman Kumar Goel(Talk) 14:44, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The literal Hindi translation of the English term "Union territory" is Sanghashasit Pradesh, where Sangha or Sangh denotes to the "Union". The Hindi word Kendrashasit Pradesh would translate into "Centrally-administered territory". — Hemant DabralTalk 14:52, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Hemant Dabral: I said there is not any single source for word Sanghashasit. The official Hindi term what has been used in all government websites to school textbooks is Kendrashasit Pradesh. Unless there are any sources citing Sanghashasit official or prevalent term (not a single source exists till now), we aren't supposed to assign native language ourselves. Since when tweets became a "reliable source"? — Hemant DabralTalk 04:18, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that I was the one to put tweets here. However, these tweets aren't even remotely related to our concern. Aman Kumar Goel(Talk) 13:44, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
