This bit under "early life" seems excessively POV to me
[edit]"He was living in the home of his parents near Manchester, New York when his brother Joseph was permitted to bring the golden plates home and commence translation of the Book of Mormon. William is reported to have not been privileged to view them, but was allowed to feel them, open them and lift the soft case in which they were kept."
Anybody care if I give improving it a whirl? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Revanneosl (talk • contribs) 04:54, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- What about this part is POV? Is it that it presumes that Joseph Smith had in his possession real gold plates? Good Ol’factory (talk) 03:16, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- It should be fairly simple to reword this to be more neutral. Something like, "He was living in the home of his parents near Manchester, New York when his brother Joseph reported that he had brought home golden plates from the hill Cumorah. William was told by Joseph that he could not view the golden plates but was allowed to reach into the case and feel what Joseph said were the plates." The last sentence is a bit clunky and could perhaps be improved upon. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:25, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
William Smith, Lyman Wight and the Williamites?
[edit]I have started a discussion (here) on William Smith and Lyman Wight. How the events, regarding Smith and Wight, unfolded could effect several pages (i.e. Lyman Wight, William Smith, RLDS, List of sects in the Latter Day Saint movement, Template:Smith family lineal succession, etc.), so input by those who understand the William Smith topic, would be greatly appreciated.--ARTEST4ECHO (talk/contribs) 13:36, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
